Chiropractic has been generally and historically misunderstood. As Winter Park’s Chiropractor, Dr. Roffler has found that 3 of the more common misunderstandings are: (1) “Once you start going to a chiropractor you can never stop going to a chiropractor”. Obviously, this is false. In fact, chiropractic patients can stop care at any point of their choosing. However, many patients choose to continue Wellness visits because of the positive health benefits they feel along with their desire to feel and function at their best. (2) MDs are doctors, Chiropractors are not. Actually both are doctors and both are considered physicians. Both are extensively trained in the basic sciences and have about the same number of classroom hours. The main difference is that MDs have more schooling in drugs and surgery (Chiropractors work to keep their patients away from drugs and surgery whenever possible); Chiropractors have more schooling in radiology, Chiropractic manipulation, and nutrition. (3) Another misconception is that surgery is the only option for herniated discs and/or spinal stenosis. Unfortunately, many patients are not told about Non-surgical Spinal Decompression, a relatively new procedure with proven positive results that can help many, many people avoid addictive drugs and potentially risky back or neck surgery.
